Virus on my old hard drive?

2009-02-12 1:29 am
I am getting a new computer because my old one wont work anymore. I want to put the old hard drive into he new computer as a slave hard drive, but my old hard drive has a virus.

How can I get rid of the virus in the hard drive before putting it in the new computer?

If I hook up the hard drive to my new computer, will it get the virus automatically or do I have to open the hard drive on my computer first?

Can I scan my hard drive in my new computer without getting the virus?

What is a good scanning software to scan my hard drive for virus, malware and anything else bad?

Will geek squad be able to just scan my hard drive with just the drive because there is something wrong with my motherboard and it wont turn on?
更新1:

I don't want to reformat the hard drive because I have important files on it. The virus is pretty bad. It deleted something on windows. When ever I log in it logs me right out. So I am very afraid to get it. Can I just takethe hard drive to geek squad? And for how much? So do I have to open the files on the old hard drive to get the virus or is it automatic? These are my main questions.

you have some options here:

- keep the hard drive in the old computer and format it there.

- add it in the computer, then format it.

- add it in the new computer and scan it for virus, if you want to keep your old files.

you can download avg or avast anti virus, or norton.. they are all good.

Take the drive out and ask geek squad to look at it. You could have just the old drive plugged in to the new computer and run a virus scan from there.

You could reformat the drive too.

Don't listen to the spammer above me. 2 above me =P.

You can install Malwarebyte's AntiMalware or SuperAntiSpyware. You might as well hook it up to your computer, it depends on what kind of virus it is. Just scan it as soon as possible once you plug it in, then scan the whole computer. Then get Commodo Firewall for further protection.
