Need help with math please?

I know I asked this question already and i worked it out but I'm a little confused will the answer be w=p/2-l or p1L. The problem is P= 2L + 2w solve for w. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know i was supposed to divide 2 by both sides and that leaves me with 1. So would w= just 1?? If so what about the L?? Ahh please help
更新1:

Lol first I did ask a math teacher, Im not trying get off easy, Im trying keep from failing ok smartys. Second I have NO ideal how to add or multiply or divide or whatever with alphabets, This is my FIRST time ever doing it ok. So basiclly what I do is ignore the alphabets and divide 2 by 2?? What is meant by divide by both sides?? I dont understand because I get 1.

更新2:

Ahhhhhhhhhhh Im being driven insane!!!!!!! Thanks so much everybody. Im ok all the way up to the divide part. I mean HTF do you divide alphabets??? *Crying* Lol So I cancel out 1 side which is the 2L which leaves me with the 2w which i divide by....??

im only in seventh grade but this might help
Example 1: Solve the formula

P = 2L + 2W
for W.

Solution to Example 1

Given

P = 2L + 2W

we first isolate the term containing W : add -2L to both sides of the equation

P - 2L = 2L + 2W - 2L

Simplify to obtain

P - 2L = 2W

Divide both sides by 2 to obtain W.

W = (P- 2L) / 2

P = 2L + 2W

P - 2L = 2W................I subtracted L from both sides, L cancels on
..................................right

P - 2L = W.................Divide by 2 on both sides, 2 cancels on right
--------
2

That is your answer. You can't cancel the 2's out b/c on the top, you are not multiplying, you are finding a difference. So, do not cancel out the 2's.

Answer:
P - 2L = W
---------
2

w=(P-2L)/2 or w = P/2 - L are both answers. W is not equal to 1 because you dont know L or P. if you divide both sides by 2 you would get P/2 = L + w.

p-2L divided by 2 equals W.

Subtract 2L from both sides. then divide by 2 on both sides to get rid of the 2w. Then you are just left with the w on the one side.

You subtract the 2L onto the other side because your just finding for w right?
so it'd be
P - 2L = 2w
then you'd just divide both sides by 2 to get
P-2L
------- = w
2

for L
it'd be similar to above.
P - 2w = 2L
then you'd divide both sides again by 2
so it becomes,
P - 2w
--------- = L
2

Ask a math teacher.
