An optical illusion is using color, shape, and position to confuse the human brain when it interprets the image viewed by the eyes.

A simple example is a picture of a major league ball player viewed from a distance. But, when the viewer steps closer, he/she sees the image is actually comprised of hundreds of very small pictures of that same player, which are in a proper color, shape, and position to give the illusion, at a distance, that you are really looking at one large picture of that individual.

The shape on top is not the triangle that it appears to be. The "hypotenuse" is not a straight line at all, but is instead two lines connected at a very slight angle. This causes a slight depresion in the shape. When the smaller shapes are rearranged, we get a bulge in the "hypotenuse." Since it is taking up extra space on top, we now have a "hole" someplace else. It's a cool optical illusion.

He likes to play with several perspectives within the same piece of work and is a genius when it comes to making objects look three dimensionsal on a 2 dimensional piece of paper. He's also got several pieces with stair cases that continually go up (or down) depending on how you look at it. And that's only a few of the things he does with optical illusions and perspective.
