Assuming that question is meant to be read as :-
(1/3) (2x - 5) = 7/20
20(2x - 5) = 21
40x - 100 = 21
40x = 121
x = 121 / 40

First, find the LCD (lowest common denominator):
20/60 (2x-5) = 21/60
Then clear the fractions by subtracting 20/60 from both sides.
-20/60 (2x-5) = 21/60 - 20/60 = 2x-5 = 1/60
Then add 5 to both sides, to clear the -5.
2x = 5/60
Then divide both sides by 2 to clear the 2 from the x and you get:
x = 2.5/60
The answer is a long nasty looking decimal, but on a calculator, it would be 2.5 divided by 60.
Hope this helps!

1/3(2x - 5) = 7/20
(2x - 5)/3 = 7/20
2x - 5 = 3(7/20)
2x - 5 = 21/20
20(2x - 5) = 21
20*2x - 20*5 = 21
40x - 100 = 21
40x = 21 + 100
x = 121/40 (3.025)
