Can you actually buy scrapbooks?

I have to make a scrapbook on 10 historic events for my U.S. History class and it has to have at least 20 pages. I know scrapbooks are supposed to be for memories and photos, but I'm not the teacher... I have no idea about how to make scrapbooks, only how they look like and what they're supposed to be used for. What do I do?! She gave us a list of events to choose from and one of the I chose was World War I. She wants to write 3 paragraphs on each event. "One page of text, the other of pictures." Then she typed, "Add photos, illustrations, designs to your scrapbook on second page." I get the concept, but what I need to know is the question at the top and how much money does it usually cost to make scrapbooks?? Some advice would help too. Thanks!

You can really pay a lot for a scrapbook, or you can have one for almost free.Often more expensive albums will last a very long time - they are for archival work like family histories, where people want to keep the album for generations. I am guessing your album probably won't be something you want to keep for the next 50 - 100 years? In that case you can find cheaper materials to make it from.

Look around the house for flat, thickish paper/light cardboard and see if you think this will make some pages for you. You can use old cardboard drink coasters, large playing cards, even heavy duty construction paper. Or you can get some light card cut to shape by a printing shop.

Punch holes in one side of your pages and slip a book binding ring through the holes - book binding rings are available from many craft/stationery/hobby shops and they are not expensive.

You can even make an album out of paper bags:

To decorate, use heavier stationery for the pages you want to write your journalling on. You can splash out and buy some sheets of scrapbooking paper from a craft store - they often cost around $1.00 a sheet and you can make cut them up to mat photos, decorate around them etc. Even wrapping paper could be suitable, and you could use lighter varieties like tissue paper to createsofter effects, or tear the paper to add texture and interest.

I recommend you look for some albums online for examples of pages you might like to make.

While style is personal, here's some examples of pages and photos scrapped by others, as well as some papers suitable for a WWI album that you can download and print:

I hope you enjoy your project! who knows? You may decide to do more scrapbooking for pleasure if you enjoy this one!

All the very best

I would suggest getting a binder, slip covers, and some pretty paper. Look for pictures, charts, and other illustrations online and print them out. Put pictures on one page and on the page across from it, put the paragraphs. You can print the paragraphs bigger so they fill up the whole page and in an "old fashioned" font. You also might want to print a boarder around your paragraphs to make them look a little more decorated.

Good luck : )

This sounds like a big project for you and not one that you want to keep for your whole life. You can go to www.scrapbookflair.com and use the digital scrapbook creator and then while you are online get pictures. You can get an 8 1/2 x 11 book or you can just use a binder and get some spiffy stickers. If you use that free digital book creator (and its pretty simple to use) you can create pages that you can just print on your inkjet. If you think you might want to keep this get a package of white or cream acid free card stock and make sure you get page protectors that are also acid free. You can pull this project off for under $20.

You can create scrapbook pages for your history project at CropMom. http://www.cropmom.com. You can upload the photos you'd like to use then embellish your digital scrapbook pages using CropMom's thousands of scrapbook graphics.

If you want to print your scrapbook pages, you can buy the high resolution JPEG layouts, then print them at home.
