populations x(t) and y(t) of two species interact according to the first order system of equations as follow :

dx/dt = 3x + y

dy/dt = 2x+ 2y

eliminate y to obtain a second order differential equation for x as a function of time t.
hence find x(t) and use it to find y(t).
