3x^2 - 4x - 4
= 3x^2 + 2x - 6x - 4
= (3x^2 + 2x) - (6x + 4)
= x(3x + 2) - 2(3x + 2)
= (3x + 2)(x - 2)

The answer is A, though I cannot tell what the question marks are supposed to be. None of B or C or D can be factors of the original equation -- no matter what operator replaces the ?.
