A massless spring hangs from the ceiling with a small objet attached to its lower end. The object is initially held at rest in a position y and oscillates up and down, with its lowest position being 10cm below y

Since the object is at rest at position y,
hence, mg = ky
where k is the spring constant and m is the mass of the object
i.e. k/m = g/y
When the object performs simple harmonic motion about y as the equilibrium position, the frequency of oscillation f is given by,
f = (1/2.pi) x square-root(k/m)
where pi = 3.14159 ......
thus, f =(1/2.pi) x square-root(g/y)
