(x + 5)(x - 5), difference of two squares.

x² - 25 = 0
x² = 25
x = 5

The factors:
= x - 5
= x + 5

Answer: (x - 5)(x + 5) are the factors.

Proof (F.O.I.L. to x² - 25):
= (x - 5)(x + 5)
= x² + 5x - 5x - 25
= x² - 25

Solution.

1. x^2 = x times x

=(x)(x)

2. we have to find two number that times together to make -25

= -5 x 5

ANSWER. = (x-5)(x+5)

CHECK ANSWER.

EXPAND (x-5)(x+5)

=(x times x) + (x times 5) - (5 times x) - (5 x 5)

= x^2+5x-5x-25

= x^2-25

hope it helped! ( i wrote how to do it just so if you needed any extra help)

this is very simple.
x^2 - 25
x^2 = 25
x = underroot 25
which means + or - 5
which means (x-5) (x + 5)
this (a+b)(a-b) rule.
o.k.
2009-02-04 6:37 pm
a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b)

x^2 - 25
= x^2 - 5^2
= (x + 5)(x - 5)

yeh it is possible. If only the sign is positive, it can't be factored.

(x^2-25)=(x+5)(x-5) answer//
2009-02-04 6:14 pm
x² – 25 = (x + 5)(x – 5)
2009-02-04 6:11 pm
(x+5)(x-5)
that is an example of difference of two squares
and then the factors would be sum and difference of two identical terms

the easiest way is to recognize 25 is 5^2 and remember the formula a^2-b^2= (a+b)(a-b) . So the answer is (x+5)(x-5)
