I am rather surprised why the above guy made such a comment. I wonder if he/she has any knowledge on the works of professional physicists in Hong Kong when making such a statement.
Physics graduates, apart from engaging in the teaching profession in secondary or tertiary levels that students are familiar with, could practice physics as a profession (in the same way as engineering graduates practising the engineering profession, or a surveying graduate practising surveying as a profession... etc). In so doing, one has to select a specialty for practice.
Specialties that are currently practising by physicists in Hong Kong include:
Medical physicists in public and private hospitals.

(Health) physicists in the HKSAR Government

Scientific Officers (atmospheric physicists) in the Hong Kong Observatory

Environmental Physicists/scientists (Environmental Protection Officers) in both public and private sectors.
Building physicists/scientists in the private sector.
All these specialties require the incumbent to have a strong background knowledge in physics, at least at university graduate level, as any of these jobs require intensive use of physics knowledge.
There are also local professional organizations for the above specialties. Some of these give awards on professional recognition.
