二甲基丙酸甲脂丁-1-烯加入(有機過氧化物=有機溶劑)在60攝氏度下加熱生成有機玻璃.(聚合物)
氯乙烯加有機過氧氫化物如H2O2(有機溶劑)在60攝氏度下加熱生成聚氯乙烯.(聚合物)
以上均為聚合作用中的加成聚合作用,也是加成聚合物.

What you ask is why it need a common solvent to dissolve the reactants. For better control & easier to react, you need to find a common inert solvent to dissolve the reactants to form small molecules or ions so they can collide each other to fasten the rate of reaction. Moreover you can control the conditions of the reaction more closely such as the temperature, concentration & etc. There are numerous examples which are not important but the theory is!!!
