Any antivirus is not 100% effective, Windows Defender included. Install and run malwarebytes/BitDefender and AVG/Avast (both free downloads).

Honestly, if a computer is THAT infected, you shouldn't be trying to clean it by yourself at all. You need to either reformat it from scratch, or take it to a professional that has a lot of experience dealing with virus infections. Otherwise, I can almost guarantee you that you're not going to get everything off of there, and you'll continue to have trouble in the future.

Open up your hard drive folder, then click on tools, folder options. You want to show hidden files and folders, as well as hidden operating system files. It will ask you to confirm.

Also, the "folder-like" name is not a directory at all. My suggestion would be to use a combination of Hijack This! and WinSockXPfix, then follow it up with Adaware, CCleaner, and Spybot: Search and Destroy (all while in safe mode). Many times even if you delete it, there's another linked file that will just recreate the file you deleted, but with a different name. You won't get anywhere with it.

The best thing to do when a computer gets this bad and you do not know how to manually remove them is this.

Backup your music, pictures, videos, data files, homework, or anything you need to keep. Put them on DVD, CD, USB drive, a zipped email to yourself, anything to back them up.

Then pop in that nice restore CD that you got with your computer.
It will set your computer like new again.

I do this to my computer every 3months, with or without virus just to keep it running smooth.
