Is it a bad idea to buy stuff from pawn shops?

There is this pawn shop in my area with a PS3. I know they fingerprint and ID people who sell stuff there, so it probably isn't stolen. They also have a 7 day return policy, so it probably isn't broken. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy it.

Doesn't matter if it's stolen, just scratch off the id number on the bottom and the cops can't touch it. And see if he has a tv you can try it out on
