Accounting involves the study of the rules and procedures in the recording, classification, reporting, analysis, and the interpretation of the financial positions and operating results of businesses, under a set of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and the relevant government and tax regulations.
Finance involves the study of the Money and Capital markets, the Investment analysis and decisions, and Managerial Finance at the individual business level. Managerial Finance includes the analysis of business performance and the prediction of future business results, and includes decisions on funding and investment, cash flow and inventory level. It also involves decisions in business expansion, merges and acquisitions, as well as profit distribution or reinvestment etc.
Most Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business Administration degrees will cover courses in both accounting and finance, although the depth of study on each area will depend on the choice of major, such as Accountancy or Finance.
