'by the way' means: 順便說說

'by the way' means '話時話'

用法: 在對話中想轉換話題時用

例子:
Mary: Hi. What do you do?
Peter: I work in an office.
Mary: How much is your salary per month?
Peter: About $30,000.
Mary: I see. By the way, do you like your boss?
....

從以上對話可見, by the way 有 順帶一提 的意思, 而且是英文會話中極之常用的語句之一

By the way 的一般對話時的意思是: 順便一提.
其次是: 在路旁，在途中；附带说说...等的意思

點解會是這個意思? 原因是我們要意會, 唔你直接翻譯英文
1) way 是指 "一路上"
2) by 是指 "旁邊"或"分枝" 的意思.

比如: 從我們一路上談論的話題, 想順便說說其它(分枝)的題目.
Example 1:
We have been discussing about the Sun solar system, by the way, let's talk about the Earth for awhile.
一般"by the way" 所提出的話題都會跟之前談論我話題有小小關係.

Example 2:
Let say you are organizing an exhibition event for the coming Sunday and you are discussing the details with your manager about it. However, you want to let the manager know that you can't join the event on Sunday. ( 你在安排星期日的exhibition, 那當你跟上師談論有關exhibition細節時, 你就會說, 順便一提: 我星期日沒法參加那個exhibition.)
So during the discussion with your manager, you can say: "By the way, I won't be able to attend the exhibition that day."
