1. you have a team of 8 people working for you. there are 3 distinctly different tasks that need to be assigned, one person to each task, how many different ways can this be done?

2. you run a restaurant with 20 emplyees, you need to create 4 person committee, how mant different committees are possible? (assuem all positions within the committee are equal)

3. suppose in a restaurant the probability that customer orders clam chowder is 0.05, the probability they get food poisoning is 0.02 and the probability they order clam chowder or get food poisoning is 0.06.
- what is the conditional probability they get food poisoning given thatthey order clam chowder.
- are the events, "the customer oders clam chowder" and the customer gets food poisoning" independent?

ITS URGENT!! THANKS ALOT!

1. (different tasks -- permutation)
number of different ways = 8 P 3 = 8*7*6 = 336
2. (all positions within the committee are equal -- combination)
number of different committees = 20 C 4 = 4845
3. Let C be the event that customer orders clam chowder
and F be the event that customer gets food poisoning
P(C) = 0.05, P(F) = 0.02, P(C∪F) = 0.06
P(C∩F) = P(C)+P(F)-P(C∪F) = 0.05+0.02-0.06 = 0.01
P(F|C) = P(C∩F)/P(C) = 0.01/0.05 = 0.2
Independent if P(C)*P(F) = P(C∩F)
P(C)*P(F) = (0.06)(0.02) = 0.0012
P(C∩F) = 0.01
So, two events are NOT independent.
