Being claimed as a dependant?

Well, I lived with my mom for the entire year. I have a full time job and this year I made just over 15000... I am 19 years old (Turn 20 in may of 09 if that makes a difference) I live in Maryland. I am trying to figure out if my mom is still able to claim me on her taxes or not... So that I can go ahead and do my taxes for this year... Anyone know if she can claim me or not? I've been on hold with the IRS for the past hour and thirty mins... So maybe someone here will know.... Thanks!

There are two ways your mom can qualify to claim you as a dependent: (1) you are 19 and living at home or (2) you are under 24 and a full-time student. You mom can claim you if she wishes to, but she doesn't have to. You should discuss with your mom if she is going to or if you are going to claim yourself.

If you were a full time student during at least 5 months of 2008, then she can very possibly claim you. If you weren't a full time student during at least 5 months, no she can't claim you.

I'm pretty sure as long as you put down on your taxes that you were a dependent during the year she can claim you.

I think as long as you live with her, she has to count you as a dependent.
