A friend can only be a friend. ( correct)

A friend can just be a friend. ( correct)

In English grammar, there is no rule that says we cannot use " just= adverb" after the modal verb" can".

We are just friends. ( present tense)
We were just friends. ( past tense)
We will just talk to her. ( future tense)

I am just playing around. ( present continuous tense)

I was just kidding. ( past continuous/progressive tense)
We have just finished eating. ( present perfect tense)
It is correct to say " We just cannot stop it. " as well

全句應該寫成:

"a friend can just be a friend"

"just" 要放响 "can" 後面先啱。
