Can I take my dogs back from spca?

I adopted two puppies last December, they were my first dogs. I was not used to them and I returned them to spca. I regret in doing that. Does anyone know if I can take them back from the spca?

NO, you cannot get them back. If you already turned them in once, what's to say (to them - SPCA) that you won't return them again.

They may even have a waiting period before you can adopt again. But next time only get one dog to make it easier on you.

If they are still available for adoption then it is a possibility..however do not adopt them again unless you are SURE you want them and will not return them. Returning dogs back to the pound can be very damaging to them psychologically

No you can't get them back. You now have a record of dumping your dogs there & they fear that you would just do it again. Or even worse, you could just turn them loose if you didn't like them.

Having a dog is a life time thing. If you could would you send your kids away for ever? A dog is as much family as a child is. It is a life long & constant commitment.

Usually once you return an animal to the SPCA ~ your chances are almost none of getting them back.

The only thing you can do is contact the SPCA and talk with them on your options at this point in time. Remember, the SPCA is in it for the welfare of the dog not the satisfaction of the person.

They are going to ask you WHY in the first place you adopted the puppies then returned them and what has changed from then to now! Prepare yourself, its not going to be very nice in most cases...

NO. They would probably have your info somewhere and when looking up records see that you adopted then returned dogs and not adopt to you again. If you really want to try, call them up and tell them the situation.

But I doubt they would since you just regret that you returned them. If you've never had a dog before it's never a good idea to start with 2 puppies as 2 can be a handful even for an experienced dog owner.

my spca require you to sign paperwork stating you can't get your dog back in return nor adopt from the shelter for lik 6-12 months i believe

I sure hope they don't give them back to you. What would make them think you won't dump them again.. Puppies need lots of socialization and a family that cares about them not a sometime family.. There will probably be a wait b-4 you can ever adopt again.

I'm having the same issue now, as we're planning on adding another dog to our brood in 2011. From a good breeder you have the pros of: - Knowing the health and temperamental background of the dog - Dealing with a professional that knows the breed (again, only from a GOOD breeder) - Knowing the parents of your dog so you have a basis of what they could be - A lifetime support system Cons of going to a breeder: - For every good breeder, there's 5 BYBs posing as one. - Expect a high price tag - May not be local so the puppy may need to be shipped/picked up - If you're getting a puppy, you need to start from scratch with training, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it Animal Shelter Pup Pros: - Saving a life. - There's many gems in pounds just waiting to be found! Some of the most amazing dogs I've known were rescues! - Cheaper - Usually spayed/neutered before leaving Animal Shelter Cons: - Don't know the health history of the dog - Don't know the temperamental history of the dog - Don't know if it was abused in the past (it could react out of fear in instances you can't predict) - Can be very different at home than it was in the kennel environment I've been weighing both for about six months and I still can't choose between them! Best of luck!

Dogs are not fashion items to be got rid of when you no longer think they're "cute" or "cool".
You treated those dogs like that, and shouldn't get any others for a good long time as you're obviously not mentally capable of caring for them properly.

What's to stop you from turning them back again when you get tired of them after a few days or weeks, just like the last time?
And no, even if you can get any dogs from them (I hope not) you won't get the dogs you mistreated like you did.
Even if they still have them (unlikely, puppies especially get adopted quickly) they won't put them back in the hands of someone who they know can't be trusted to take proper care of them.

LOOK dont listen to the negative feedback from some of these people to answer you question it depends on the reason you gave upon returning the dogs and if you were honest with them then yes they will let you get them back if they are still available getiing a new pet can be exciting but what we sometimes forget to acknowledge is that these little guys breathe just as we do feel just as we do and need life just as we do.... I will say that you did the right thing in returning them instead of just getting rid of them i commend you for that but with that said having a dog is a huge responsibility and this time before you do it please THINK about the animal in which you are fixing to be getting think about all the pros and cons of having that pet and make sure that this is something that you want this time... ANIMALS ARE PEOPLE ALSO!!!!!!
