Wealth could not last for over three generations. OR
A wealthy state could not last for over three generations.
愚見:
「富不過三代」一般是指第一代努力耕耘，積存財富。第二代是「父賺錢，子享福」年代。第三代不努力，漸漸將錢用走。因此財富不能再保留至下一代。

”富不過三代”的英文?
It's unlikely to maintain the patrimony up to the third generation.
(只是意譯, 也不知有沒有現成之 idiom?)
