Per page 196 of the owner's manual you should replace the timing belt every 110,000 miles or every 7 years whichever comes first.

Honda dealers get $600 to $700 for this service. You can usually find an independent mechanic to do it for half that including a new water pump at the same time. I know someone in NE PA that gets $350.

However, on page 233 of the owner's manual it says:
Replace this belt at 60,000 miles (US) or 100,000 km (Canada) if you
regularly drive your car in one or more of these conditions:
In very high temperatures (over 110 degrees F,43 degrees C).
In very low temperatures (under -20°F, -29°C).

If you have been changing your engine coolant as required you can skip changing the water pump at the same time. You DO NOT need to change the timing belt tensioner at the same time as it will last well beyond 150000 miles of use. You DO NOT need to change any seals either if this is the belt's first change.

Use a timing belt from Honda, about $35.
Replace the belt that drives your power steering and alternator at the same time. Have the coolant changed if you have not done so in the last 30 months.

I have done 8 Civic timing belts, takes about 2 hours start to finish.

The owner's manual that came with the car will tell you everything you need to maintain it. Honda engineering has already come up with the proper interval for their belts and since Honda's last so darn long doesn't it make sense to use Honda parts?

People suggest changing the water pump when changing the timing belt but don't make the mistake of saving money with someone else's parts even if they are lifetime warranted. It is hard to imagine a water pump lasting 200,000 miles so the change is warranted but it will add to your cost. A reputable dealer may be the best answer for getting it done right but a reputable repair shop that will install Honda parts would be cheaper and acceptable as well. Finding such a shop will be the trick as even dealerships can be bad. A good thing about a Honda dealership is that the work would be warranted across the nation at ANY Honda dealership.

Good luck!

No - actually your timing belt would normally be due about now (110K miles) so that may be what they are going by. Your next replacement should be at 261,000 km. Manual transmission oil can be replaced when you have the timing belt done the next time although there is no formal replacement schedule for manuals. If shifting gets balky, you can have the lube replaced (always with genuine Honda MTL). Nobody replaces clutch fluid; it could be done but there is no reason to believe it prolongs clutch cylinder life.

Generally about 100,000 miles depending on your driving conditions is the advised timing belt change.

During your timing belt change, make sure your timing belt tensioner is replaced. You may want to consider changing the water pump as well if you don't have the tools and don't plan to change the timing belt yourself.

Find an import tuner shop in your area you know thoes' guys that are fixing up customizing their Honda's installing turbos and stuff like that
the Labor with them will be a HOLE lot cheaper and sence they race their cars they really know their way around the civics engine with out messing anything up, have them replace the timing belt it will be the same as the dealer will do it but a lot cheaper.

the belt may cost about $100.

Most factories suggest to have the timing belt changed in every 100k km. However, a breaking of it may damage the engine, it is suggested to have it changed in every 50k km.

I think the factory service is around 110K. I would suggest having it done at the dealership...will cost extra $$$ but will be worth the quality labor.

Make sure you replace the timing belt tensioner, the timing belt, water pump, and all the engine seals on that side of the block.

Dealership will likely run you $5-600 for the above. It will be more if you replace the other two belts.

Timing belts usually last about 120k miles . They cost a lot of cash to replace it.If you have the 200-300$ i have it changed at or about the 120-130k mile mark And do the water pump while they are at it. since its right there and wouldn't cost but a few more $
