would you please advise the meaning of the sentence below?

"employees were called to tell them they were furlowed for this week without pay"

furlow means

FUR'LOW, n. [See Fare and Leave.]

Leave of absence; a word used only in military affairs. Leave or license given by a commanding officer to an officer or soldier to be absent from service for a certain time.

This week they won't have to work ( no $ for this week)
employees were called = passive voice ( Someone( the boss) called them)
"employees were called to tell them they were furlowed for this week without pay"
The boss or someone told the employees to tell them ( the people)
this week they(the people) won't have to work ( no pay = they won't get any money for this week)
they were furlowed = 他們允許休假

furl owed=拖欠

其實應該係將furl owed分開.
沒有furlowed這字=]
