1/5 = x/12 + xx(1/12 + 1) = 1/5
x = 1/5/(1/12 + 1)
x = 1/5/(1/12 + 12/12)
x = 1/5/(13/12)
x = 1/5(12/13)
x = 12/65

As given by you question MUST be read as :-
(i)
1/5 = (x/12) + x
12 = 5x + 60x
65 x = 12
x = 12 / 65
However it may be that you actually mean :-
(ii)
1/5 = x / (12 + x) which , of course , is completely different :-
12 + x = 5x
12 = 4x
x = 3
It looks as if you meant (ii)
Important NOTE
-------------------
Use brackets
(i)
1/5 = (x/12) + x
12 = 5x + 60x
65 x = 12
x = 12 / 65
