My textbook has the word xi in the first tone. My parents say it is supposed to be fourth tone. Is my textbook wrong?
更新1:

there's a lot of xi, so here you are the two in the 4th tone:
系 xi (system)
细 xi (thin)

better tell us what meaning of "xi" you have in your book, that way we may be able to help you.

sunset 是夕阳,落日的意思
so xi (夕) is the first tone~

Actually, 夕 is in the first tone.

夕
Translation: evening, sunset
Pronunciation: xī (Mandarin)
參考: I'm Chinese.

In China, xi is a first tone, but on Taiwan it's pronounced with a fourth tone. I'm guessing your parents are from Taiwan.
