1st & 2nd equations (find q):
3p - q = 2
q = 3p - 2

2p - 1/4q = 3
8p - q = 12
q = 8p - 12

Find p:
3p - 2 = 8p - 12
5p = 10
p = 2

Find q:
= 3(2) - 2
= 6 - 2
= 4

Answer: p = 2, q = 4

Proof (sums of the sides of the equations are equal ):
3p - q + 2p - 1/4q = 2 + 3
5p - 1 1/4q = 5
5p - 5/4q = 5 plug the values
5(2) - 5/4(4) = 5
10 - 20/4 = 5
10 - 5 = 5
5 = 5

3p - q = 2 (solve by using substitution)
2p - 1/4(q) = 3

3p - q = 2
q = 3p - 2

2p - 1/4(q) = 3
2p - 1/4(3p - 2) = 3
2p - (3p - 2)/4 = 3
4[2p - (3p - 2)/4] = 4[3]
8p - (3p - 2) = 12
8p - 3p + 2 = 12
5p = 12 - 2
5p = 10
p = 10/5
p = 2

3p - q = 2
3(2) - q = 2
6 - q = 2
q = 6 - 2
q = 4

∴ p = 2 , q = 4

I agree
p = 2 , q = 4
2009-01-11 3:05 pm
3p-q=2 /*2
2p-1/4q=3 /*3
------------------------- -
0p-5/4q=-5
q=4
p=2
2009-01-11 3:01 pm
3p - q = 2
-8p + q = - 12----ADD

-5p = - 10
p = 2

6 - q = 2
q = 4

p = 2 , q = 4
