I came up with 5

12 + [-3 + (-4)]
= 12 + [-3 - 4]
= 12 + [-7]
= 12 - 7
= 5

12 + [ - 7 ] = 5

12+[-3+(-4)]
first you do: -3 + -4
that equals: -7
then you do 12 + -7
and that equals- +5

12 + [ -3 + ( -4 )]

12 + { -7} = 5

Remember order of operations in the parenthesis

12 + [ - 3 + ( - 4)]=
12 + [ - 3 - 4]=
12 + [ - 7]
12-7=
5

Order of Operations goes as follows:
P= Parenthesis(everything in parenthesis first, and if there is more than one operation in parenthesis do in a subcatagory PEMDAS order)

E= exponents
M = multiplication(same order as division btw)
D = division(same order as multiplication
A = Addition(same order as subtraction)
S = subtraction(same order as addition)

If two things are the same order go left to right.

Hope I helped,

5.
It is the same as 12 + - 3 + - 4 or 12 - 3 - 4.
(This is the associative property - allows us to take away parentheses in an equation or expression using addition and/or subtraction.)
