If to simplify:
= 6 1/5 - 1/4x(7 2/3)
= 6 1/5 - 1/4x(23/3)
= 6 1/5 - 23/12x
= 6 1/5 - 1 11/12x

Answer: 6 1/5 - 1 11/12x

If finding value of x:
6 1/5 - 1/4x(7 2/3) = 0
31/5 - 1/4x(23/3) = 0
23/12x = 31/5
x = 372/115 or 3 27/115

Answer: x = 372/115 or 3 27/115

Checking:
6 1/5 - 1/4(372/115[7 2/3]) = 0
31/5 - 93/115(23/3) = 0
31/5 - 2,139/345 = 0
31/5 - 31/5 = 0
0 = 0

6 1/5 - 1/4 x (7 2/3) =
6 1/5 -1/4 x 23/3 =
6 1/5 - 23/12 =
4 47/60.

31/5 - (1/4 x 23/3)
31/5 - 23/12
372/60 - 115/60
257/60
4 17/60
2009-01-10 3:43 pm
6(1/5)-1/4x(7(2/3)=31/5-1/4x23/3=31/5-23/12=(372-115)/60=257/60=4.28

6 1/5 - 1/4(7 2/3)
= (5 x 6 + 1)/5 - 1/4[(3 x 7 + 2)/3]
= 31/5 - 1/4[23/3]
= 31/5 - 23/12
= 372/60 - 115/60
= 257/60 (4 17/60)
2009-01-10 3:24 pm
6 1/5 - 1/4 X (7 2/3)
= 6 1/5 - 1/4 (23/3)
=6 1/5 - 1/4 X 23/3 (brackets off first)
=6 1/5 - 23/12 remember BODMAS
=31/5 - 23/12
=31x12/5x12 - 23x5/12x5
=372/60 - 115/60
=257/60
=4 17/60

I will assume 'X' is 'multiplied by', rather than being an algebraic value.

Order of Operation:
1. Change fraction in the brackets to improper fraction
2. Multiply 1/4 to 23/3 (which was the proper fraction 7 2/3)
Lets call this answer 'a': 1/4 x 23/3
3. Change the 6 1/5 to improper fraction
4. Subtract 'a' from 31/5 (which was proper fraction 6 1/5)
The equation will look like this: 31/5 - 23/3
5. Change both values so that they share the same denomulator
31/5 becomes 93/15 after being multiplies by 3
23/3 becomes 115/15 after being multiplies by 5
6. 23/3 - 115/15 is equals to

-22/15

I'm confident with this answer. If the 'X' is an algebraic value, sorry but I can't be bothered doing it.
