The answer is option E. The physics principle invloved is the Conservation of Charge.
Be aware that although the total charge on sphere X remains the same, there is a re-distribution of charge on the sphere surface. Charges moves, from the previous even distribution on sphere surface, to the side facing the other sphere (sphere Y).

I think it should be E. Since the 2 charged spheres do not touch eachother, no flow of charges occur. Therefore the charges stay where they are. The charge on the spheres remain unchanged.
