關於中二的articles的問題......

當人物到school, hospital, prison等地方是進行'理所當然'的活動, 如到學校上課, 到醫院看病, 到監獄坐牢等等, 我們不需要加上'the'.

當人物並非進行那些'理所當然'的活動, 如到學校接兒子放學, 到醫院探病, 到監獄探監等等, 我們便需要加上'the'.

讓我用你的例子來說明

A句:
John was sent to prison.
John到監獄是做理所當然的事, 即是John在監獄中是坐牢, 所以我們不需要加上'the'.

B句:
His mother went to the prison to visit him last week.
John's mother到監獄並非因犯了事而坐牢, 而是到監獄做另一些事, 從句子中我們知道John的媽媽是去探監, 所以我們需要加上'the'去強調John的媽媽到監牢的目的.

對不起, 我忘記了解釋bed的用法

A句:
Mary goes to bed at 10 o'clock every night.
Mary每晚十時正睡覺, Mary到床上睡覺, 是進行'理所當然'的活動, 所以我們不用加上'the'.

B句:
Mary goes to the bed to fetch her doll.
Mary到床那裡去拿她的洋娃娃, 她並非進行那'理所當然'的活動, 所以我們要加上'the'.

bed牀, school學校, church教堂, hospital醫院, prison監獄

John was sent to prison
John被送進監獄

His mother went to the prison to visit him last week.
他的媽媽上星期到監獄探他
