Take the number before the decimal out. Then take the decimal and convert it to a fraction, so

first -17 and 44/100 (reduces to 11/25) <use a calculator and multiply .44 until its a number without a decimal. if the question was for .4444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444 then this would be 4/9

.25 times 4 = 1 so this is 1/4, you are correct for the second one

I am a math teacher so here is the answer....

-17.44 is -17 44/100 however it simplifys to -17 11/25

1.25 is 1 25/100 however it simplifys to 1 1/4

-17 44/100 = -17 22/50 = - 17 11/25

the first one is -17 11/25ths because 44/100 reduces to 11/25

the second one is 1 1/4 because it's 1 and 25/100ths and that reduces to 1/4

any decimal such as .25 or .44 is the same as 25/100 and 44/100 they got 1/4 by reducing 25/100

if one decimal place its over ten .1=1/10
3 places over 1000 and so on

.333=333/1000

the fraction is the part of the number after the decimal.

you have to write it as 44/100 and then reduce the fraction to the lowest denominator.

or you could just leave it. then it would be -17 44/100
