if you want to travel a bit you have enough time to visit nearby town such as Oxford, Cambridge, Reading, Southampton etc... they can all be reached in around an hour by train. If you really want to, Birmingham is about 1.5 hour by train.
However if you only want to see London, there are plenty of museums. I would suggest you to get a travel card and travel within Zone 1 and 2. you can see all the famous spots in London.

Missing from the Map, Greenwich park. Also Blackheath village next to Greenwich park is lovely. Very unlike the rest of London.
NOTE: sometimes it is quicker to walk then to take the bus or underground.

I agree with hocs23 about the day trips except Greenwich. I used to live near there and i think you will be bored spending a whole day. if you do go to Greenwich, visit Blackheath village too. it is right opposite the greenwich park. It's really lovely in the evening.
