為何旁聽講課又稱作”sit”堂?

其實”sit堂”這詞本身已有語病,應該叫 “sit in 堂”。Sit in 係phrasal verb,一般解作代理或靜坐抗議,而在教育界是指未經登記報讀某course/unit的人去旁聽講師/教授授課。

凡phrasal verb, 只講前面嘅動詞而省略後面嘅字(後面嘅字可以係副詞或介詞),意思就可能完全唔同,例如get同get over,give 同give up。但sit 同 sit in呢個case意思上比較近似,才令你唔明白點解旁聽講課又稱作”sit堂”。 And as a courtesy, you usually ask for professor/lecturer’s permission before you sit in a lecture. Simply say, “Can I sit in your lecture, Professor?”
