Explain how language and words are just symbols for meaning, and without shared meaning, language and words are meaningless.

Words, whether they are symbols or whatever, are building blocks for languages to express assigned meanings.

A language, with proper, consistent and grammatical set up, is a practical method to link or compile appropriate words together for particular expressions.

These two components do not actually share, but rather augment or assist each other to deliver the correct messages from the author.

So as long as a phrase or sentence make sense out of the words used, it should be alright. However, don't abuse grammar and use the language properly otherwise the relevant culture will be lost over time.
