What is the best thing to order at a Greek Restaurant that almost anyone would like?

I've never gone to a Greek restaurant, and I'm thinking about taking my wife, but neither one of us are sure what we would order. We are very simple in what we like and don't branch out much. What would be something that we would be sure to like?

Agree with Kathy M - souvlaki is pretty basic Greek. It's just lean meat marinated in lemon, garlic and oregano, and grilled. I like lamb the best, but If you are squeamish about lamb, then chicken or beef are very good too!

Keftedes are really good, too; they are just charbroiled meatballs, but very flavourful.

I love pastitsio.... it's a pasta and lamb based dish that is incredibly good.... it's got nutmeg in it if you like that.

Oh man, can I come along - I love Greek food.

You can order the gyro with everything on it.

Pastichio which is baked pasta dish

Mousaka which is baked eggplant/potato dish

Grilled fish with fresh lemon

Greek rice

Greek salad a must.

Or roasted chicken & potatoes with a pepper lemon sauce. It's awesome.

Here are some ideas: fresh grilled fish with lemon, spices & olive oil
Greek salad with feta cheese; (dolmades) stuffed grape leaves; gyros or kebabs
souvlaki; There is a wonderful soup that some Greek restaurants serve, it's a brightly flavored chicken and rice soup that is popular in Greece where its name, Avgolemono, means "egg-lemon", referring to two of its staple ingredients. An appetizer that is tasty is the spanikopita, which is a tasty stuffed phylo dough pastry. Ask your waiter for details of what the foods are and how they are prepared. I'm sure you'll find many delightful dishes to try. For desert, try the baklava (made with phylo dough chopped nuts), or moist honey cake.

lamb souvlaki!! The Greeks make the best lamb! If you don't like lamb, you can also get chicken or beef souvlaki. They are usually served with rice, potatoes and Greek salad.

anything you order at a Greek restaurant is good!
personally I love Gyros (don't forget the sauce!) If you like seafood try pan fried squid or fresh fish or shrimp saganaki. Speaking of saganaki try it its Kefalograviera cheese flamed at your table side (you'll love it!). but if you are a vegetarian a Greek salad or a spanakopita (sauteed spinach with dill and egg wrapped in filo)

p.s the list is endless!!!

Gyros (marinated lamb roasted on a spit) are amazing, unless of course you're a vegetarian. Personally I also like souvlaki, spakanopita, and, of course, baklava!

Pasticio. Some places make it with lamb, but also with ground beef (more common in the US). It has noodles, nutmeg-spiced meat, bechamel sauce, cheese.... Yummmmmm. It's nicknamed "Greek Lasagna"

For dessert, go for the Galaktaburiko. It's way better than Baklava.

Gyros if you eat meat, and falafel if you're vegetarian.
