The first to remember is that when you have the same denominator in a fraction, you copy the denominator and do the indicated sum or substraction with the numbers in the numerators:
Ex: 1/3 + 1/3 = .................copy the denominator /3
then add the numerators 1+1=2
So the answer is 2/3
When you have different denominators, you calculate the Least Common Multiple.
For ex. yours above
1/2 - 1/3.................2 and 3 LCM= 2 times 3= 6
So you say 6 is the LCM..................../6
this is the denominator for the fraction
Now you divide 6 by the first denominator and then you multiply this by the numerator ( 6/2 = 3 times 1 equal 3)
tHEN YOU DO THE SAME WITH THE SECOND DENOMINATOR
(6/3=2 times 1equals 2)
Lets put everything together
(3 - 2 )/6= 1/6
Thats all you do!!!!
