The ratio by mass of hydrogen to oxygen in water is 1:8.
This means that 1 g of hydrogen would exactly react with 8 g of oxygen to form 9 g of water.
However, it is NOT true to say that 2 g of hydrogen will exactly react 8 g of oxygen to form 10 g of water.
