關於Articles的問題

我想問一下 prison是一個地方來的 為什麼這個前不用加"the"?

"go to prison " in English =坐 監
His mother did not go to jail. 不是坐監
His mother went to THE指定<-----prison to visit him last week.
went to THE prison = 去個間監獄<+++++++++++++++++
