i may be moving there for 6 months for an internship with a hotel company . i was just wondering what there is for people under 19 to do their at night... and are there many shops, like where do people buy their "need stuff" like are there many grocery stores? im gonna guess theres no walmart near by. im 18, and im kinda nervous about not knowing any of this, if i was to actually get the job (interview is on monday!) . i would be moving there in april till september. i also see in pics during the summer that there is still snow on the mountains! thats crazy to me, i live in the bc interior and snow stops around march here...

i live in a town with 90 thousand ppl and with stores like walmart/costco and im just hoping i can adapt well

Go for it!

I have not been to Whistler but live in Banff. You will not miss the big box stores, and what you consider convenience. Whister will have better coffee shops, boutique shops, restaurants and activities than if you lived in a big city.

Of course there will be a price difference but that is what being 'local' is all about. (locals should usually get a 10% discount on many things)

and if you really miss Wallmart, it is only a few hours drive away, that you can take your shopping trips.

Nightlife and activities are endless... there is always something to do.

As far as snow goes - in Banff we can get some snow in the mountains in the summer - that doesn't mean there is snow in town... In the mountains it is always best to dress in layers. and no you will not need a winter coat in September.

You can't just move to Canada. You have to apply through Immigration. I hope you are independently wealthy as well since Whistler is expensive.

You'll love Whistler. It's gorgeous. But be prepared as things in Whistler are a bit more expensive. There is an IGA inside Whistler as well as a other convenience stores, they also have a Pharmasave. But if you want more big name stores, like Walmart, Canadian Tire, Save on Foods you'll need to go to Squamish, which is about (no more than) 1/2 hour drive from Whistler.

Before making this decision I hope you have arranged for a place to live. Whistler is beyond expensive and all the way to insane. Havent been there for years but the restaurant food is very expensive, housing is pretty well unavailable unless you are filthy rich or sharing with about 10 other people. You would to drive to the closest town or Vancouver to do most of your shopping.

It isnt the Thompson Okanagan -

I think you should move there for experience, it'd only be for 6 months even if you did hate it.

I've heard there are many Japanese and Australian people who live/visit Whistler.

I'm guessing there are convienience stores nearby, there'd have to be. Especially as this is Canada.
