I don't think it is AL chem question...maybe I think too much...

toluene + NBS-------->PhCH2Br

PhCH2Br+ Li----->PhCH2-Li

PhCH2-Li + CuI----> (PhCH2)2 CuLi

(PhCH2)2 CuLi + EtCl--------> PhCH2CH2CH3

PhCH3----> PhCOOH ---->PhCH2OH ---->PhCH2CH2OH----> PhCH2CH2CH2OH----->PhCH2CH=CH2 ----> PhCH2CH2CH3

1. MnO4-/H+; heat
2. LiAlH4, then H3O+
3. first PCl3, then CN-, then H3O+, then LiAlH4
4. first PCl3, then CN-, then H3O+, then LiAlH4
5. conc H2SO4
6. H2, Pt
