A cake shop recently receives complaints from several customers that her first-choice birthday cake, which is expected to weigh 1.2 lb, is underweight. The following data is the weight in lbs of 17 first-choice birthday cakes:

a) In constructing a confidence interval for the true average weight of the birthday cake, elaborate which distribution has to be used. What assumption(s) must be made initially?

b) Construct a 95% confidence interval estimate for the true average weight of the birthday cake. Keep the accuracy of your answer to one decimal place.

c) At 5% level of significance, is there enough evidence to infer that the birthday cake is underweight?

d) Use a p-value approach to test the corresponding hypothesis.

Test-statistic

Since |Test-statistic|>1.746, reject H0 and conclude that there is enough evidence to infer that the birthday cake is underweight
(d)
The p-value of Test-statistic=-3.39573 is around 1-0.9981=0.0019
Since 0.0019<0.05 reject H0 and conclude that there is enough evidence to infer that the birthday cake is underweight
