i think my shar-pei has an ear infection.?

she does not seem to have any pain but she keeps scratching her left ear and shaking her head. i looked in side her ear with a flash light and didnt see any thing. then again i dont know what to look for. it is a little red but then again she is scratching it a lot so that mat be where the red is coming from. just wondering if any one has any home remedies or a good web sight that could help. thanks for any help you can give me.

An ear infection requires a vet, and that does sound like one. You really don't want to play around with your dogs hearing, right?

have a vet examine her.. she may have a deep ear infection, or it may even be ear mites.. its best to let a vet diagnose and treat.

It very well may be an ear infection, especially if you're seeing redness (a sign of irritation). Shar-pei's have inherently narrow ear canals, which both makes them more prone to infection - and will make it difficult for you to see.
The best thing you can do for her is make an appointment with your vet. No home-remedies or websites will be able to diagnose what type of ear infection she has, nor will they be able to direct you to the correct medicines to treat it.
Your veterinarian will take swabs of each ear, and either he/she or a technician will prepare a slide with the residue removed from the ear. This slide is stained, allowed to dry, and then read under the microscope. The stains used cause bacteria and yeast to be visible, and this makes it possible to determine the cause and severity of the infection.
Only after identification can an appropriate medication/medicated cleaner be prescribed.
Catching and treating ear infections early, then preventing further infections, is the best way to go. Waiting too long can cause severe pain - and in extreme cases, hearing loss.
