a compound X contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen only.
In an experiment to determine the empirical formula of compound X,
3.1g of compound X was completely burnt in excesss oxygen,it was
found that 2.7g of water and 4.4 g of CO2 were collected. What is the

✔ 最佳答案
Mass of C = 4.4 x 12.0 / ( 12.0 + 16.0 x 2 ) = 1.2g
No. of moles of C = 1.2 / 12.0 = 0.1mol
Mass of H = 2.7 x ( 1.0 x 2 ) / ( 1.0 x 2 + 16.0 ) = 0.3g
No. of moles of H = 0.3 / 1.0 = 0.3mol
Mass of O = 3.1 - 1.2 - 0.3 = 1.6g
No. of moles of O = 1.6 / 16.0 = 0.1mol
Hence by mole ratio, X is CH3O.
