Percent is a number that always come with denominator of 100, so if you want to convert a fraction, let's say 1/4 into percent then you must make the denominator (or in this case: 4) into 100
this is how you do through proportion method:
1/4 = x/100
Cross-multiple: 1*100 = x*4
>>> 100 = 4x
THEN divide 4 from both side
100/4 = 4x/4
25 = x or x = 25
so 25/100 is equal to 1/4
then it is 25%
You can also use mental mathematic:
FOR 7/10... 10 times what number makes 100?
you'll see right away that 10 x 10 = 100
SO if 10 x 10 = 100, then 7 x 10 = 70%!!
This is what most of us use to quickly convert fraction with Factor of 2 or 5 into Percent
LAWs to remember =====> What you do to denominator, do it to numerator too... If you want to change denominator to 100 by multiplying certain number, you have to multiply that certain number with numerator too!!
OR ELSE the fraction won't be having the same value as its original: Let's say 7/10 WILL NOT equal to 7/100, it'll equal to 70/100!!
Multiply the denominator by whatever number will give a product of 100. Multiply the numerator by this number as well to ge your percent. In this case, 10 * 10 =100 ....so 7 * 10 = 70%
