I've narrowed it down to April, or October of 2010.

which would be a better time to travel there. (this is my first time going overseas, let alone to Japan.)

The cherry blossoms are nice, but when I lived there I found that the only month with really nice weather was October. It is still cold and rainy in April in Tokyo/Yokohama. October will likely be sunny and in the 70's...

It would probably help if you said where in Japan you were planning to travel to. Most people think because Japan is so small that the climate is the same throughout the country. This is definitely not the case. Japan has very varied climates from Okinawa to Hokkaido. In October in Tokyo/Yokohama it definitely is not hot and muggy nor is there any snow.

You can observe a operating vacation visa. It is open to younger tourists a long time 18-30 and to citizens of a few international locations like Austria, UK, Canada, Ireland, Denmark, Canada, New Zealand, France and Germany. This is in general one of the vital first-rate approaches to discover Japan at the same time receives a commission.

Go in October-it has the most stable and pleasant weather. April is too upredictable-heavy rain could come along and knock all the cherry blossoms off in any case. In a good chunk of Japan snow is still a possibility in April, or else Kanto could already be muggy. You just never know in Spring, but October is almost always really nice.

I've been three times since June/july 2007 and the weather is as below,June/July-very hot humid with the exception of Hokkaido and the Alps in southern Japan.October/November still wore shorts but had a number of days where it was freezing/snow fell in the higher areas.September was great,it was warm not too humid all over Honshu,Hokkaido was great comfortable all the time even when it rained.Caught the tail end of a Typhoon near Tokyo but my umbrella and raincoat helped me on that day.October early is when the trees change color and is extraordinary but don't forget some layers and buy an umbrella when you arrive, travel with layers that you can put on and take off at will.

I travelled around October, it was still wonderful, but if you love cherry blossoms, April is the perfect time. This year was my first year travelling and October was very hot and muggy, but still lovely.

But if you chose not to go in April, go during Christmas holidays, where it will be winter there. Skiing and there New Year festivals are definitely worth seeing.

You're going to Tokyo, go in April. That's when you'll see cherry blossoms (in Tokyo as well as neighbouring towns) and you can also go to Takayama for their Spring Festival - you'll get to see tons of really nice floats.
