Designing a website with some html knowledge?

I start an html class in a couple weeks and want to create a site that has users, user-generated content, databases, and a search feature. Will html be enough to create these functions or do I need to know more? Should I hire someone to help?

MySql, Ajax, and PHP are also necessary for what you want

You will need CSS, Ajax, MySQL or PostgreSQL, XML, and not HTML, but XHTML, which is even better for standardization.

you'll need at least a database (ie. MySQL) and some scripting (ie. PHP). If you're starting a HTML class soon, why don't you see what you'll be learning and what assignments you'll be working on before you take on projects that are way above your currently level.

HTML will not be enough. You will need HTML, a database, and some server-side coding.

It's a lot to learn. For those features you've listed, you might be ahead to try a Content Management System (CMS). Drupal is one of many CMS's that make those features easy to implement without too much effort.
