Horizontal line = zero
Vertical line = infinity (or no slope)

The slope of a vertical line is undefined. As the slope of a line approaches vertical the slope approaches infinity.

The slope of a horizontal line is zero.

horizontal = 0
Vertical = undefined
That's how it goes in middle school algebra

A horizontal line has slope 0 and a vertical line has no slope (undefined).
This is because:

y=mx+b (where m is the slope)

So, a horizontal line equation would look something like:
y= 0x + 5 (giving a 0 in the m position, so the slope is 0)

A vertical line equation would look like:
x= 5 (thus there is no m and no slope)

Slope is always defined as rise/run. In a vertical line, you rise infinitely, but you have no run, so you have some number as your rise/0. Anything divided by 0 is undefined, so the slope of a vertical line is undefined.

In a vertical line, you have 0 rise and infinite run, so you have 0/run. 0 divided by anything is 0, so the slope of a horizontal line is 0.
