The domain of the function is all real numbers except -5.

when x+5=0 or x=-5 , f(x) is undefined.

domain is always "all real numbers" except 3 special conditions:

1) a logarithm can only be positive
2) a square root can only be positive
3) the denominator cannot equal zero

We have the third case here.

x + 5 =/= 0

So, x =/= -5

The domain, therefore, includes all numbers except -5

x can be { R-(-5)}

f(x) = (1 + x^2)/(x + 5)

Domain:
|x + 5| > 0
x + 5 > 0 or x + 5 < 0

x + 5 > 0
x > -5

x + 5 < 0
x < -5

X not equal -5
