How do you make better urls in Wordpress?

If you have installed Wordpress on your own domain, then just login to your WP admin and click on Settings then Permalinks and change the format.

If you are using Wordpress.com, you will need to see if they have a similiar function in your admin area. I don't have wordpress.com so I am not sure where it'll be under.
