why are -3/10, 3/-10, and -(3/10) the same?

i have to write a paragraph for my honors algebra 2 class on why -3/10, 3/-10, and -(3/10) equal the same thing. Also, why -3/-10 is not the same as those. Any suggestions?!

Because a fraction is division , anytime you divide with a negative the result is a negative.

this is a joke right?

anyway, the reason why the last one -3/-10, is not the same because both numerator and denominator can be multiplied with negative (-)1 to give you a positive answer.

well, two negatives make a positive which is why -3/-10 is a positive 3/10. when you only have one negative, the whole fraction is a negative

Fractions remain the same so long as you multiply top AND bottom by the same number.

(-3) / 10 = 3 / (-10) afer X by (-1)

3 / (-10) = (-3) / 10 after X by (-1)

(- 3) / 10 = (-1) (3/10) = - (3 / 10)

if it is -3/-10.... the negative signs will get canceled and becomes positive....
n -3/10 n 3/-10 n -(3/10) is d same...

in the first three given, negative is divided by
positive... the answer to that is always negative...
(well in the third one its positive divided by positive
but because of the negative sign, it became negative)...
in the fourth one...
negative is divided by negative which will result
to positive..

there's your difference...

Think of it like division - if you divide a positive by a negative, 3/-10, you get a negative number, -(3/10), and if you divide a negative by a positive, -3/10, you also get a negative.
Now, if you divide a negative by a negative, like -3/-10, the answer is always positive, so it would really be the same as 3/10

1)
-3/10
= -3 ÷ 10
= -0.3

2)
3/-10
= 3 ÷ (-10)
= -0.3

3)
-(3/10)
= -(3 ÷ 10)
= -(0.3)
= -0.3

∴ -3/10 = 3/-10 = -(3/10)

Edit: -3/10, 3/-10 and -(3/10) are not really the same (style of writing).

1. Dividing a negative number by a positive number will create a negative number. Dividing a positive number by a negative number will create a negative number. Basically, if there are an odd number of negative signs, your product will be a negative number.
2. With -(3/10), you would first solve what is inside the parentheses (3/10) then simply add the negative sign to the final product.
3. In -3/-10, since you are dividing a negative number by a negative number, they cancel each other out and produce a positive number.

A negative divided by a positive is always a negative. So no matter which one is negative, it's overall a negative number just as long as the other one is positive. I don't know about -(3/10) because it looks like the negative is distributing to 3 and 10, but I'm sure it's a negative.
