get rid of the numbers

add 4 to both sides to get rid of -4 on the left hand side

then get rid of 23 by subtracting 23 from both sides

get rid of nine by dividing both sides by 9

-4 + 4 = 9x + 23 + 4
0 = 9x +27

0/9 = 9x/9 + 27/9

0 = x + 3

So x = -3

Rearrange the eqn putting x on one side --> - 9x = 23 + 4 = 27

Divide -9 into 27 to find x ---> x = - 3

-4 = 9x + 23
9x = -4 - 23
9x = -27
x = -27/9
x = -3

bring everything containing x to one side of the equals sign, everything else to the other side
9x= -4 -23 as sign changes when it changes sides
then 9x = -27
then bring over the 9
x = -27/9
x = -3

make x the subject:
You do the opposite of BODMAS
therefore:

9x+23=-4
move the 23 to the other side: REMEMBER: Side change equals sign change. hence you subtract the 23 from the 4:

9x=-4-23

therefore:

9x=-27

now, divide both sides by 9 to get rid of the 9 from the x:

this equals to:

x=-27/9

therefore x=-3

hope this helps

isn't it just a linear equation?
you minus 23 from both sides so then:
-27=9x
then you divide both sides by 9 because your goal is to get the pronumeral by its self. and what you do to one side you must do to the other so then:
-3=x or x=-3

your answer would be x=-3

- 27 = 9x
x = - 3
